Competition II

This is the mother of which classic film actor?

Click on the picture for a better view. The mother and son resemble each other more than you could think... The picture is taken around 1895, about ten years before the actor I'm looking for was born.

The winner gets to decide which actor/actress/director or other film related person I will write about next. Good luck!

Hi, only just discovered your fantastic site.
As you are a Marx Bros fan, may I humbly direct you towards The Marx Brothers Council of Britain - (www.marxcouncil.blogspot.com)...
Okay, plug over.
As for the actor...
how about Robert Donat?

Matthew Coniam:
Welcome! Thank you for the tip (yeah, I adore the Marx bros!) - I will link to it from my site right away!

Good guess, but sorry: She's not the mother of Robert Donat!

Matthew Coniam said...

Damn! I really thought I had it! Is it just me or does she seriously look like him???

Matthew Coniam:
I agree! But I think you will see the resemblance when you know the right answer...

Best guess: Buddy Rogers?

James Stewart or William Bendix?

Stellacomans:
Nope!

Kate Gabrielle:
Sorry!

I'll give you a clue though:
British born!

Am I allowed another go?
How about Ray Milland?

Matthew Coniam:
You can guess how many times you want!

I tell you - it is a very famous person! I've written about the guy several times.

Cary Grant?

Lolita of the Classics said...

RIGHT! Cary Grant is the right answer. The woman in the picture is Elsie Leach, Cary Grant's (Archibald Leach) mother.

Matthew: choose whomever you want me to do a post about!

Wow, Cary Grant was my first guess! But, I didn't want to say, because I won last time. Now I feel really smart (which I'm not...LOL).

Matthew Coniam said...

I nominate...
Rondo Hatton.
No, just kidding.
How about Miriam Hopkins, Carole Lombard or Linda Darnell? Take your pick...

Millie:
You're too good at my competitions! You may try to win next time, I give you approval!

Matthew Coniam:
Well, then I'll pick Linda Darnell! I'll take a cigarette break, and then I'll get started!

And I'll go watch Hangover Square and get in the mood.
